Founder-first outreach: a tactical playbook

Most outreach fails for the same reason: it’s written for the sender, not the founder. Here is how we think about the first touch — and the lines we won’t cross.

What works

  • Specificity. Reference something real about the business, not a templated compliment.
  • Patience. The goal of the first message is a conversation, not a term sheet.
  • Credibility. Outreach lands when it comes from an operator who has built something themselves.

What we refuse to do

We don’t use fake urgency, we don’t misrepresent who we’re working with, and we never treat a founder like a CRM record. The relationship is the asset — and you don’t burn the asset for a quarter’s pipeline.
